Redding Performing Arts Center’s RPAC KIDS children’s theater is designed so that students with little or no theater experience all the way to experienced young actors can flourish and grow. We foster a nurturing and supportive classroom environment where students are safe to take risks and step outside their comfort zones. Students build confidence, explore creativity, and learn how to express themselves in appropriate and meaningful ways. The class is divided into two levels based on the student’s grade to accommodate the changes in the student’s development and abilities during their formative years. RPAC KIDS is an explorative theater playground providing children with their first opportunity to explore acting, singing, and dancing. In both levels we teach the elements of theater technique including: stage presence, rehearsal etiquette, improvisation, audition technique, and beginning scene work are used to introduce students to acting and character development. Because theater is a collaborative discipline, students will also gain exposure to visual art, music, dance, and technical theater elements. Students learn to build an ensemble that values play, trust, expressiveness, curiosity, and generosity of spirit. Students learn the building blocks of physical acting: posture, poise, movement, and character building. Through rehearsal and performance of age appropriate musicals, students explore the framework of storytelling and develop skills to tell stories that are meaningful, connected, and worth telling.

This experience and exposure to storytelling through theater is designed to foster a life-long appreciation for the arts, and develop life skills that extend beyond the classroom.
