High School (Grades 9-12)

SPRING SEMESTER: JAN 6 – MAY 30

THEATRE* SPRING REGISTRATION – CLOSED

The PERFORMANCE THEATRE course is designed so that beginners and experienced young actors alike can flourish and grow. We foster a nurturing and supportive classroom environment where students are asked to take risks and step outside their comfort zones. Improvisation, audition technique, and beginning scene work are used to expand students’ acting and character development skills. Because theatre is a collaborative discipline, students will also build skills in visual art, music, dance, and technical theatre elements. Students actively build an ensemble that values play, trust, expressiveness, curiosity, and generosity of spirit. Students expand on the building blocks of physical acting: posture, poise, movement, and character building. Through rehearsal and performance of plays and musicals, students establish their own work within the larger framework of storytelling and develop skills to tell stories that are meaningful, connected, and worth telling. This experience and exposure to storytelling through theatre is designed to foster a life-long appreciation for the arts, and develop life skills that extend beyond the classroom.
